Chris Duffy’s style was perfect for what The Golden Vine were looking for. Double bonus is that he’s a local artist too. Golden Vine Hotel owner Kevin was keen to develop a mural for the building that would be a conversation starter about the history of the business.

“We wanted a mural that will make people stop and consider what it meant, something that represented our venue and all we encompass, that was also abstract enough to be thought provoking. The piece that has been created will offer unique interpretations for everyone who see it, it does not just provide a set narrative or promotion for our venue.” adds Maddi, manager at The Golden Vine Hotel.

“As Bendigo’s most loved home of live music we knew this needed to be the main focus, we also discussed including community and inclusivity in the mural. We discussed the Vine as being a ‘meeting place’ with a rich history of long-lasting friendships and more than a few love stories. The couple in the mural and the word ‘LOVE’ incorporated this idea perfectly.”

“We hope that it will create conversation and bring people together. We want people to talk to our staff about it and ask about the history of the Vine and what we represent.” adds Maddi

In between King & Queen Streets, this 4m x 5m art piece showcases the rich history of the area and the venue itself. It’s a tribute to the musicians who have called The Vine home for countless years. The microphone also is a nod to the open mic nights. Not too bold but with a splash of colour, in fitting with the existing building – it will be the focus when you drive up Myrtle Street, heading to Quarry Hill.
