A little bit about these paintings from Frankie O
Frankie O writes, ‘The artworks commissioned for Pennyweight Walk are, hands down, the most thrilling paintings I’ve created so far in my art career. It’s also some of the largest. The pressure of creating three large scale artworks in time to install down Pennyweight Walk was extremely intense and exciting.
There was no time to second guess my designs or my application process. There was only time to create, it was extremely liberating to be working on a large scale again.
I have always been drawn to large scale, due to its impact and immersion. I like to feel surrounded and enveloped by the colour and intensity of a work. This project was exactly that. The freedom to use my whole body when creating, reaching, dipping, stretching, stepping, reacting, and building was amazingly holistic. To be able to feel the shape and movement of line, with my whole body created such a powerful and valid connection to my work.
